We provide a range of free and paid webinars to assist your practice. All online webinars and workshops are delivered via zoom. Caring for mothers with intellectual disability: barriers and facilitators of care

Date: 4th March – via Australian College of Midwives

This webinar introduces health providers and midwives to key findings from the presenter’s PhD research. Major themes that contribute to barriers and facilitators of care for mothers with intellectual disability (ID) are discussed, along with historical and contemporary issues that contribute to care outcomes. Strategies to improve maternity care for this group of consumers are presented.

Stories of motherhood: becoming mothers with an intellectual disability

This workshop introduces participants to the barriers that mothers with ID face, from the perspectives of women with ID. Four case studies are presented with discussion on the challenges that these mothers face as they interact with maternity care providers. Women’s experiences are placed within a human rights context and the opportunity to live a contemporary life.

Having conversations about intellectual disability – asking and identifying

Date: April 14th – 10am AEDT

Time: 2.5 Hours

Cost: $90

This workshop provides health providers an opportunity to improve their knowledge about intellectual disability, identifying ID, and having a conversation with the person around disclosing ID. Theoretical information is augmented by experiential learning and opportunity to practice skills in this area.

Developing accessible pregnancy & birthing resources for mothers with intellectual disability

Date: April 28th – 10am AEDT

Time: 4 Hours 

Cost: $180

This workshop follows on from ‘Having conversations about intellectual disability – asking and identifying’. It augments health professionals skills in providing and communicating information to mothers with ID during their journey from pregnancy to early parenting using a human rights framework. Participants will have an opportunity to practice making and communicating a resource of their choice during the workshop.
